Our story takes flight in 1988, marking the birth of the first widely acknowledged computer worm, christened the Morris worm. The brainchild of Robert Tappan Morris, a scholar at Cornell University, this worm was conceived with the goal of navigating the budding internet on UNIX systems. However, a coding mishap triggered its uncontrolled replication, which in turn decelerated systems. This caused considerable turmoil across the emerging network, dramatically demonstrating the chaos that a solitary digital entity could instigate.

The startling discovery ignited a surge of initiatives in the realm of virus development, particularly the birth of the infamous Dark Avenger mutation engine in the dawn of the 1990s. This virus was distinct in its features: it harnessed polymorphic code to alter its virtual DNA during each infection.
